On Wednesdays guests at Peaceful Valley may elect to travel to Rocky Mountain National Park for an all day adventure featuring unbelievable scenery, abundant wildlife, exciting roads and just plain fun.
We start at Estes Park and enter the park at the Trail Ridge entrance. Then we cut over to Fall River Road, the first road to the top of the ridge. It’s a gravel road, one way up; and the views just get better and better as we travel from 7,500 feet to almost 12,000 ft.
On the way up we make several stops, one at Chasm Falls, where we descend 100 ft to the bottom and feel the fresh cool air as it comes off the water. On the way to the top of Trail Ridge we look for wildlife, especially Elk. Suddenly, there they are, just around the bend…sometimes hundreds of them.
At the top we have lunch and explore the visitor center and shop. Then we drive down Trail Ridge Road, the newer road, which follows the remainder of the old Ute Indian trail from ridge to ridge down to the valley. This is quite a ride, with wildlife often appearing on the way down, including bighorn sheep.
The tour also includes a visit to Bear Lake, 9.5 miles up Glacier Creek, a glacial lake at the foot of Hallett Peak. Here guests can walk around the lake or just sit for a while and enjoy the atmosphere. On the way back to the ranch after a full day, we often stop at St. Malo Chapel, the chapel on the rock.
We come back to the ranch with wonderful memories, good fun and time well spent.
